Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Homeschool4me only meeting the planning and reporting requirements for homeschooling in Queensland?  What about the other states and territories?

Unfortunately, although we are one country and Homeschool4me is using the Australian Curriculum, States are responsible for education.  As a result the planning and reporting requirements vary from State to State. Homeschool4me is currently designed to meet Queensland Educations requirements, and plans to include other States in the future.

How do I register my child as homeschooled with the Education Department?

Queensland: Follow this link https://education.qld.gov.au/schools-educators/other-education/home-education/registration.  If you would like to book a consultation to get help with registration call Julie Swift on 0437 782726.

Do I need to send the Education Department copies of all the cards or all of the work my child has completed?

That would be way too much paperwork.  Send the Department the 'big ticket items'  and make notes (annotate) that show what your child has accomplished in that subject through the year.  For example, for English a piece of writing it will show use of punctuation, spelling, use of imagery etc. Look out for an upcoming section on the website: Reporting.

What about other subjects covered at school - art, music, languages, physical education?

In Queensland it is sufficient to report on the four core subjects - English, Maths, Science and HASS.  As a parent / carer you are probably already taking care of at least some of your child's needs in other areas e.g. art and sport.  Following your child's interests with and meeting local homeschool groups are a great way for you and your child to engage with other homeschool families and participate in activities that round out your child's education.

Do we only have to do all the activities and use all the resources on each card in the Learning Guide?

We recommend that you use different resources and activities because it will help your child to learn the knowledge and skills.  Focus more on those activities and resources that appeal to your child's learning style (e.g. tactile, outdoor, computer based etc.) and those that can be adapted to include your child's interests.  See blog 'Homeschooling with Heart: How to Tailor Lessons to Your Child's Interests and Learning Style'.

Do we only need to do each card within the Learning Guide once?

It depends on how your child is finding the concepts and skills.  If they find it easy then once may be enough, but if they find it harder you may choose to repeat certain activities or use resources more than once.  It is always good to revisit material to embed the learning.
